LPMS-HR: High-Resolution IMU for Robotics & Autonomous Systems

LPMS-HR
Description
The LPMS-HR is a high-resolution MEMS Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) designed for precision motion sensing in robotics and autonomous systems. Combining a 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer in a compact 22.4 × 22.4 × 11 mm aluminum housing, the LPMS-HR delivers real-time 6-DOF orientation, linear acceleration, and angular velocity data. These essential motion inputs that keep robots stable, accurate, and aware of their environment. Available in USB, RS232, and TTL variants, it integrates cleanly into a wide range of robotic architectures and control systems.
High-Resolution Motion Sensing for Precise Robot Control
The LPMS-HR features a 16-bit accelerometer and 16-bit gyroscope delivering angular resolution down to 0.01°, giving your robot control system the fine-grained motion data it needs to respond accurately and consistently. The sensor computes orientation data onboard, outputting Euler angles, quaternions, linear acceleration, and angular velocity in real time at up to 1,000 Hz.
This level of resolution is critical for applications like balance control in humanoid robots, smooth trajectory execution in mobile platforms, and stable attitude estimation in construction or industrial machinery where even small motion errors can compound into significant operational issues.
Built for Dynamic Robotic Environments
Unlike general-purpose IMUs, the LPMS-HR is engineered for the demands of dynamic, real-world robotic deployment. Its baud rate supports up to 921,600 bps, ensuring low-latency data delivery even in bandwidth-sensitive systems, while built-in time synchronization support allows seamless coordination across multi-sensor or multi-robot setups.
The sensor’s aluminum alloy housing and industrial operating temperature range of −40°C to +85°C make it reliable across indoor factory floors, outdoor field environments, and vehicle-mounted deployments — wherever your robot needs to operate.
Flexible Connectivity & Easy System Integration
The LPMS-HR is available in three interface variants – USB, RS232, and TTL – to match your existing system architecture without additional conversion hardware. With a wide operating voltage range of 5V to 36V, it accommodates both low-power embedded systems and higher-voltage industrial power buses.
Communication uses the LPBUS / ASCII protocol, compatible with LP-Research’s software ecosystem. All sensor data types — raw sensor output, Euler angles, quaternions, linear acceleration, and temperature are accessible through a unified interface, reducing integration complexity for engineering teams.
Compact Form Factor — Maximum Deployment Flexibility
At just 22.4 × 22.4 × 11 mm and 10g, the LPMS-HR fits into space-constrained robot designs without compromising on performance. Whether mounted inside a robot joint, embedded in a mobile platform chassis, or integrated into a gimbal system, its small footprint and standard Molex 5015680607 connector make mechanical and electrical integration straightforward.
This compact, lightweight profile also makes it well-suited for humanoid robot development where every gram and millimeter of space matters across dozens of integration points.

**RS232/TTL Power Supply Caution: When connecting a high-power regulated supply (e.g. 48V-to-24V regulator) via RS232 or TTL, a momentary inrush current may occur at power-on and potentially exceed the sensor’s rated limit. Apply power in stages: allow the supply to stabilize fully before connecting to the sensor.
***ASCII Output Mode: In ASCII output mode, the device still responds to LPBUS protocol commands. ASCII output data is computed based on 32-bit floating-point numbers.
